OVERVIEW
What is Citizen and Business of the Year?
Business of the year must be a chamber member, have served the
community above normal duties, for example governmental affairs,
involvement in service clubs, charities, educational or
recreational activities. The intention is to honor that business
which by its actions in 2007 and previous years has given
unselfishly for the betterment of the Campbell area.
Citizen of the
year in only different in that the recipient need not be a
chamber member nor a resident of Campbell. However they must
also have the same qualities as the business of the year for the
Campbell community.
Campbell is a
great little city and it is great because of their many
volunteers. It is through their tireless volunteerism that they
receive these Bennie Awards recognizing the honor bestowed upon
them.

Pat Hagmann selected
as Campbell’s 2006 Citizen of the Year
(Campbell
Express 1/24/2007)
A surprised
Pat Hagmann was recently selected as Citizen of the Year
for 2006. A contingency of well-wishers surprised her with
flowers and balloons in her office in downtown Campbell last
Monday. Pat has been involved in volunteering for Campbell for a
number of years, and in more recent years, has taken on
additional responsibility in giving them additional support.
She is currently
president of the Campbell Museum and Ainsley House Foundation
for a second term. Prior to that, she served as vice president
and treasurer. A member of that board since 2000, she
volunteered to do the foundation’s accounting. For four years,
she took on the responsibility of arranging the food service at
the summer concerts, planning the menu, getting volunteers and
making overall arrangements. This is one of the foundation’s
major fundraisers, bringing in $18,000 to $20,000 annually. Pat
worked on the Raise the Roof campaign for the museum and was a
driving force in getting the campaign underway.
One of her
passions was the museum’s education program which benefits
students in the school district’s third through fifth grade
programs. A long-time volunteer with local events, she has
worked on the Prunefestival, the Boogie on the Bayou and the
Oktoberfest for the Chamber of Commerce. Campbell’s annual toy
program has benefited from her dedication for the past 20 years,
working on ticket sales, delivering toys to Ming Quong, helping
provide support for the toy program fundraisers. As a member of
the Country Woman’s Club, she has taken on the role of treasurer
for the club’s endowment fund, which supports scholarships for
local high school students. She has also participated in the
provision of bags by the club to the Battered Woman’s Shelter.
Recently retired
as a longtime partner of Jane Kennedy, at JP Meyer Kennedy
Accounting, Pat and her husband, Al Hagmann, have raised four
children. They have four grandchildren, which they enjoy
speaking time with them at sports events, holidays and other
occasions. Pat will be feted on Saturday, February 24, at the
Campbell of Commerce City of the Year event at Villa Ragusa,
along with the Business of the Year, Campbell Optometric.

Express 1/31/07)

Commerce has selected Campbell Optometric as the Business of
the Year for 2006. Operating in Campbell for the past 30
years, this business has consistently supported community
events. According to one of the community members who nominated
the business, Dr. Arthur Low has served as president of the
local Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce and has collected
eyeglasses for Lions Club. His office has hosted students
shadowing businesses in a program teaching youth about various
careers.
Dr. Rodney Lum is currently serving as president of the Chinese
Historical and Cultural Project which helps to promote and
preserve Chinese American history and culture and has been
active in downtown Campbell street fairs. Both doctors have
consistently volunteered for civic activities. Campbell
Optometric will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of
